Gerry, NY-based senior living and care provider Heritage Ministries has taken the proverbial bull by the horns and is addressing its workforce shortage head on with a recruitment and training center set in a local mall. The Heritage Recruitment and Training Center at Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood, NY, is designed to provide educational opportunities and training for those who are interested in careers in long-term care.

“Our new recruitment and training center is an investment in the sustainability of both Heritage and our local communities by offering resources and training that will make it more affordable and accessible for those who wish to pursue a career in healthcare with immediate employment and paid training,” Heritage Ministries President and CEO Lisa Haglund said in a press release.

People can stop in at the mall to learn more about employment opportunities, speak with human resources representatives, complete applications and even interview for jobs, she said.

The provider also offers a certified nursing aide training program at the mall. Students taking the eight-week program receive paid training, including benefits, and instruction while preparing to take New York state’s CNA exam. Once students pass the exam, Heritage guarantees them employment at one of three skilled nursing and rehabilitation communities. The program is open to current employees as well as the general public.

Danielle Bozich, vice president of human resources at Heritage, said that after becoming CNAs, “employment and tuition reimbursement programs can be available for people who are interested in expanding their education.”

Heritage offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation in New York as well as at locations in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington.
