An employee of an Ohio senior living community was jailed on Friday after a colleague reported that the woman had simulated a “lap dance” with a 100-year-old male resident with dementia. The colleague told a supervisor that she had recorded the incident on a cellphone.
Brittany Fultz, 26, was charged with gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, for the incident that allegedly occurred at the Commons of Providence, a CHI Living Communities site in Sandusky, OH. The community offers independent living, assisted living and memory care, according to its website.
The incident reportedly happened in December, but police did not become aware of it until receiving a complaint on Feb. 13, Sandusky Police Department Officer Tony Bath told McKnight’s Senior Living. Police confiscated the cellphone belonging to Fultz’s co-worker and viewed on it a recording that Bath described as “provocative.”
Fultz posted bond the same day she was booked into jail, according to Erie County Jail records. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Monday, Bath said. The case will go before a grand jury next, most likely in March, he added.
Commons of Providence Executive Director Staci Lehmkuhl had not responded to a request for comment from McKnight’s Senior Living as of press time, but she released the following statement to TV station WTOL: “On Feb. 12, the executive director at the center learned of an incident involving a staff member making inappropriate comments and gestures to a resident. It was reported immediately to the local police department and Ohio Department of Health. The employee was placed on administrative leave and has since been terminated. We are cooperating with local police, who are handling the investigation, and we will not comment further about the ongoing investigation.”
The woman who recorded the incident and reported it also reportedly has been fired, and police said she will not be charged. Only one recording appears to have been made, according to police, who said that the recording does not appear to have been shared on social media.
