pill bottles with Amazon Pharmacy labels

Home-bound older adults and residents of senior living communities have a new option for purchasing their prescriptions.

Amazon on Tuesday announced the new Amazon Pharmacy, a store where customers can complete pharmacy transactions on their desktop computers or mobile devices through the Amazon app. Customers can add insurance information, manage prescriptions and choose payment options before checking out. Prime members will receive unlimited, two-day delivery on their orders at no extra charge.

The online retail giant also announced a new prescription savings program, Prime Rx, at Amazon Pharmacy. Prime members can save 80% off generic drugs and 40% off brand name drugs when paying without insurance. The savings also are available at 50,000 participating pharmacies nationwide.
