Seniors at home

Two New York senior service organizations are helping homebound seniors sharpen their minds and their social skills. The New York State Office for the Aging, The Association on Aging in New York and social learning platform GetSetUp are offering 500 weekly technology and enrichment classes, taught by older adults in a custom-built video platform.

The new offerings build on a previous initiative that offered one-hour sessions that helped approximately 38,000 seniors make social connections with peers who had similar interests.

The expanded partnership is expected to reach millions of seniors, giving them access to even more classes hosted in English, Hindi, Mandarin and Spanish.

“The Association on Aging in New York is thrilled to continue to partner with GetSetUp,” Rebecca Preve, executive director of the Association on Aging in NY, said. “The ability to bring quality programs to older New Yorkers continues to be a priority for the aging network, and we encourage participation from all across New York state.”

GetSetUp’s platform addresses many social determinants of health. It’s been used by 3 million adults in 160 countries.
