Humana announced Tuesday that it has completed the acquisition of Kindred at Home, the nation’s largest home health and hospice provider.

Kindred at Home’s home health operations will be integrated into Humana’s Home Solutions business and will adopt Humana’s payer-agnostic healthcare services brand, CenterWell. That operation will transition to CenterWell Home Health at the beginning of 2022. Humana plans to maintain a minority interest in Kindred’s personal care and hospice businesses.

“The addition of Kindred at Home will help us significantly expand our home health offering, with a focus on accelerating clinical innovation, improving patient outcomes, increasing satisfaction for patients and providers, reducing the total cost of care and providing greater value for health plan partners,” Humana President and CEO Bruce Broussard said in a statement Tuesday, announcing the deal’s closing.

Humana announced in April that it would buy out the remaining portion of Kindred at Home from TPG Capital, bringing its total investment in Kindred to $8.1 billion. Broussard said during an earnings call last month that he expected Kindred to add $1 billion to Humana’s bottom line in the current quarter.

Kindred at Home operates in 40 states with 43,000 caregivers and approximately 500,000 clients.
