The retailer known for selling television sets and refrigerators is jumping headlong into telehealth.

Best Buy Health has launched the Lively Smart smartphone for older adults. The device has simple phone features and easy one-touch access to health and safety services, including urgent care, urgent response and a mobile caregiver communication app. The smartphone is priced at just under $150, not including monthly service charges.

Lively Smart extends Best Buy Health’s Active Aging initiative for seniors. The initiative offers a flip phone integrating Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant that connects seniors with on-demand providers. The retailer also teamed up with Apple to offer its Lively app to Apple Watch users. The app offers emergency and non-emergency health support services in an effort to keep seniors safe and independent.

Best Buy is hoping to capitalize on the 72 million aging baby boomers, many of whom say they want to age in place. The new solutions could empower seniors to live independently by providing innovative home healthcare solutions at an affordable price point.
