The Department of Labor has created a new office and two new websites in an effort to ensure compliance with federal labor laws and regulations, Sec. Alexander Acosta announced Tuesday during a speech at the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association’s 2018 Safety+ Symposium in Nashville, TN.

The new Office of Compliance Initiatives will be a cross-agency effort coordinated by the department’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Acosta said.

Websites worker.gov and employer.gov will aim to help employees and companies, respectively, understand their rights and obligations related to wages, workplace safety and health, retirement security and other issues, according to the department.

“The department expects more effective compliance assistance will help the department target enforcement resources on repeat and willful violators to level the playing field for America’s job creators who abide by the law,” the Labor Department said.
