McKnight’s Senior Living Editor Lois Bowers poses with the three awards that the brand won in the 2022 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism competition.

McKnight’s Senior Living editors captured three awards for writing Friday evening at the Press Club of Cleveland’s 44th All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.

“Helping our readers stay informed and be successful in their work is personally and professionally rewarding,” McKnight’s Senior Living Editor Lois Bowers said. “Being recognized for excellence in serving our readers is icing on the cake.”

Bowers and McKnight’s Senior Living Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto won first place in a Best Headline Writing category open to magazines, Sunday magazines, alternative publications, trade and professional publications and business publications. The award was bestowed for “Camaraderie, coaching, cash, car: One provider’s quest to increase COVID vaccination among staff,” the headline on an article written by Bonvissuto. The judges said, “The alliteration was fun and intriguing, drawing the reader into the story. And the headline delivered on its premise; everything was covered.”

Additionally, Bowers won second place in the Trade Publications – Best Trade Report category for “Recovering from emotional, economic effects of pandemic will dominate senior living in 2021,” an industry outlook article featuring exclusive insights from the leaders of several senior living-related associations.

Bowers also won third place in the Best Trade Publication Column or Department category for her Editor’s Column, which appears in the Daily Briefing e-newsletter as well as the bimonthly print magazine.

The contest was open to all professional journalists working in or publishing in Ohio via daily and other newspapers; consumer, trade, professional and business publications; radio; television; and websites. More than 700 entries were submitted for this year’s competition, the most received since 2019, the last year of the contest before the pandemic started.

Awards recognized work completed in 2021. Entries were judged by members of press clubs from around the country.

McKnight’s Senior Living has won 16 awards in the All Ohio Excellence in Journalism competition since the brand began entering it in 2017. The brand has won 16 journalism awards so far in various contests in 2022.
