McKnight’s Senior Living captured four awards recognizing editorial excellence Thursday as part of the 2022 American Society of Business Publication Editors’ Azbee Awards.

The honors, for work published in 2021, came in the Azbee Awards’ Upper Midwest Region competition, which includes business-to-business media outlets in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. McKnight’s is based in suburban Chicago.

McKnight’s Senior Living won Silver Awards in the Best Web News Section and Best Print News Section categories.

Recognized on the Web News Section award were Editor Lois A. Bowers, Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto, Editorial Director John O’Connor, writers Kathleen Steele Gaivin and Amy Novotney, Art Director Mark Speakman, Graphic Designer Aminah Beg, and former Special Projects Coordinator Caroline Szachnowski.

Recognized on the Print News Section award were Bowers, O’Connor, Bonvissuto, Novotney and Speakman.

Bowers and the events team of McKnight’s’ parent company Haymarket Media also were recognized with a Bronze award in the Best Webinar category for “Finding success in increasing diversity and inclusion,” an educational session that was part of the 2021 McKnight’s Women of Distinction Forum, which was held virtually.

The webinar, coordinated and moderated by Bowers, featured as panelists Brookdale Senior Living President and CEO Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, A.G. Rhodes CEO Deke Cateau, Eclipse CEO Kai Hsiao and Christian Living Communities President and CEO Jill Vitale-Aussem, who discussed their companies’ diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Additionally, McKnight’s Senior Living and McKnight’s Long-Term Care News shared a Bronze award in the Best Print Special Supplement category, for the Technology Supplement that appeared as part of the of both brands’ June 2021 print magazines. Bowers coordinated editorial work and was a writer for the supplement. Also named on the award for their contributions were writer Rachael Zimlich, Speakman, Bonvissuto, Novotney and O’Connor.

McKnight’s Senior Living has earned 27 regional Azbee Awards since 2016, the first year of the competition after the brand expanded on its print publication by hiring Bowers and adding a website, daily e-newsletter and social media.

“It’s fantastic to see that year after year, McKnight’s is continually honored for delivering such highly respected digital, print and custom news and analysis,” O’Connor said.

National Azbee Award winners will be announced May 12. McKnight’s Senior Living is a finalist for two national awards: Best Web News Section and Best Print News Section.

ASBPE is a national organization with the goal of serving and advancing the profession of journalism in business media brands and to encourage the highest ethical standards at those brands. The Azbee Awards of Excellence program is one of the most competitive programs for business-to-business, trade, association and professional publications. The awards recognize outstanding work by magazines, websites, e-newsletters, digital magazines, social media and blogs.
