Joylin Nation describes her father as a man who “would give his all to help others.” When she was young, her family moved from Jamaica to Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her father worked hard as a foreman in a sugar cane field to provide for her and her six siblings.

This history is part of the reason that Nation has devoted her life to helping others in long-term care.

Over her more than 40 years in the field, Nation has served in multiple positions at several different companies. This includes as a licensed practical nurse supervisor, a registered nurse floor nurse and a unit manager at HCR Manor Care/ProMedica. Then, she worked as an assistant director of nursing, director of nursing, nurse consultant, nursing home administrator, and senior nursing home administrator at the Health Care and Retirement Corporation of America.

Next Nation was a regional director of operations in Southeast Florida, assistant vice president of the Atlantic Coastal Division and general manager of the Toledo, OH, area, for ManorCare.

She currently is the chief operating officer of Principle LTC, in the Raleigh-Durham region of North Carolina.

“Joylin’s natural leadership abilities have had her climbing through the ranks in her distinguished career,” Principle LTC CEO Lynn Hood said. “Her employees have always turned to Joylin as a trusted leader and friend.”

At Principle LTC, Nation has been integral to the company’s COVID-19 response. She and her staff were devoted to ensuring that every resident, patient or staff member who became ill had access to medication and care.

This kind of effort is par for the course for Nation, whom colleagues say sets a tone of hard work and respect.

“Those who work for Joylin know she is competent and capable and sets very high standards for respect to all people, no matter their age, background and circumstances in life,” Hood said. “She is completely committed to systems that maintain the wellness and safety of her employees and residents.”

Commitment that was instilled in her from a very young age by her father — whom she now looks after — and put to use every day.
