Independent living, assisted living and life plan communities (also known as continuing care retirement communities, or CCRCs) were among the 55+ housing types recognized Tuesday at the National Association of Home Builders’ 2020 Best of 55+ Housing Awards.

The ceremony, honoring excellence and innovation in the design, development, lifestyle and marketing of communities and homes that appeal to the mature market, bestowed awards during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

Some of the gold award winners in the competition:

Best 55+ Assisted Living or Special Needs Community: Balfour at Littleton, Jefferson County, CO. The developer was United Properties, the builder was Bradbury Stamm Construction, the architect and landscape architect/designer was DTJ Design, and the interior designer was  Balfour Senior Living.

Best 55+ Independent Living Community: Liv Generations Pinnacle Peak, Scottsdale, AZ. The developer was Liv Generations Senior Living, the builder was Ryan Companies, the architect was Todd & Associates, and the interior designer was Thoma-Holec Design.

Best 55+ Life Plan Community: Brio, a WesleyLife Community for Healthy Living, Johnston, IA. The builder was CBS Construction, the architect and interior designer was Pope Architects, the interior merchandiser was Storey Kenworthy, and the landscape architect/designer was b.e. Land Designs.

55+ On the Boards Design Award – Senior Housing: The Baldwin, Londonderry, NH. The developer was Edgewood Senior Solutions – Edgewood Retirement Community, the builder and architect was DiMella Shaffer, and the marketing firm was Creating Results.

Best 55+ Indoor Common or Amenity Space: Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek, an independent living and assisted living community in Goodyear, AZ. The developer was Robson Communities, the builder was MT Builders, the architect was BMA Architecture, the interior designer was Thoma-Holec Design, and marketing was done in house.

Robson Communities, which also builds communities of homes, also was named Builder of the Year and won gold awards in the Best 55+ Online Marketing Campaign, Best 55+ Print Ad, and Best 55+ Websites categories.
