A new website aims to help older adults determine where to live in retirement through user-contributed reviews and other content, and it has the backing of a major senior living operator and other companies.

Age Friendly Advisor, at AgeFriendly.com, has been launched by Waltham, MA-based Age Friendly Ventures. The company already operates job site RetirementJobs.com and Massachusetts elder care agency Mature Caregivers. The new site features crowdsourced reviews for cities across the United States, plus London.

“When managed well, user-contributed reviews reveal an extraordinary wisdom of the crowd,” Age Friendly Ventures founder and CEO Tim Driver said in a statement. “Just as consumers read and give product reviews on Amazon and restaurant and hotel ratings on Yelp and TripAdvisor, Americans can now go to agefriendly.com to read and publish crowdsourced reviews tackling complicated topics around aging.”

Those behind the website also hope it can serve as an online community enabling older adults to talk with one another about local resources to age in place, work and volunteer, including providing employer reviews and job postings.

Advice perceived by site visitors as valuable is “upvoted” so that it is more visible. Community reviews are supplemented with in-person, telephone and online help from advisers at the site.

Age Friendly Advisor also is considering adding online reviews of senior living communities to the website in the future, Driver told McKnight’s Senior Living.

The CEO formerly co-led the Employment Committee of Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker’s Council to Address Aging. He was named a national Top 50 “Influencer in Aging” by Next Avenue in 2017.

Benchmark Senior Living, MassMutual and Home Instead Senior Care are corporate founding sponsors.

“As a human connection company, Benchmark’s mission is to connect people to what’s meaningful and possible at every stage of life,” Benchmark CEO and Chairman Tom Grape told McKnight’s Senior Living. “Supporting Age Friendly Ventures aligns with that mission perfectly.”

Benchmark, also based in Waltham, MA, was No. 30 on the 2018 ASHA 50 list of largest senior living operators by the American Seniors Housing Association and No. 33 on the list of largest owners. The company was named a Certified Age Friendly Employer by RetirementJobs.com in 2018.

“Becoming an Age Friendly Advisor corporate sponsor enables senior living communities and other businesses that address needs of older Americans to be able to reach millions of potential residents and their caregivers / family members through unique email and direct mail messages from Age Friendly Advisors about trusted health and wellness, living and lifestyle and retirement income solutions,” Driver said. The website is seeking additional sponsors from the senior living industry across the United States, he added.

“In addition to sponsor and branding exposure, Age Friendly Advisor’s team can help cultivate prospects and provide direct referrals to senior living organizations,” Driver said. Interested parties may contact Driver at 781-801-4487 or [email protected].
