The atHand Overbed Table System includes features that reflect the changing needs of today’s older adults, according to its maker, Integrant, a company that is new to the healthcare space.

“We chose to create a modern overbed table because there has historically been very little innovation in that type of product, even though people’s needs have changed dramatically,” Nancy Smoot, program director, told McKnight’s Senior Living.

Features include integrated electrical and USB outlets, one-touch LED lighting with three levels of brightness, and a height-adjustable, rotatable tray table that holds up to 100 pounds. An optional accessory kit contains a cup holder, trash bin, open shelf basket and a small storage bin, all of which keep supplies accessible to the user without taking up space on the tray itself.

Based on research, the company chose to make the table — which can be used over a bed or chair — in black and brown, which were deemed to be non-institutional colors. The table is available directly through the atHand website, and the company also is planning to distribute it to senior living and healthcare facilities. At LeadingAge, the table is on display in the Invacare booth, 2824. Invacare is one distributor of the table.

“Invacare saw this product at the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living [annual meeting], immediately saw a fit with its Interior Design Division and invited us to join them at LeadingAge,” Smoot said.

Integrant will begin product shipments in approximately four weeks.
