Software company PointClickCare Technologies has bought electronic medication administration system software company QuickMAR, the companies announced Wednesday.

“The acquisition of QuickMAR expands and strengthens our health and wellness portfolio, provides our customers with more flexibility and choice in medication management solutions and enables us to service a more diverse set of senior living communities,” PointClickCare CEO Mike Wessinger said.

QuickMAR serves approximately 600 pharmacy customers that in turn serve 3,700 senior living communities, PointClickCare Vice President of Pharmacy Sales and Program Management Andy Brigant told McKnight’s Senior Living. “Combined, we will now serve approximately 10,000 senior living providers that care for 67 percent of all residents in assisted living facilities,” he said.

QuickMAR, which offers the CareSuite Manager, will remain a separate entity and keep its staff and leadership.

“We are confident that our partnership with PointClickCare will further strengthen our ability to assist senior living and LTPAC providers, and their pharmacy partners, in providing high-quality care to their residents,” QuickMAR co-founder and CEO Reed DeMordaunt said. “As our organization enters a new business chapter, our mission will remain the same: to improve medication accuracy and enhance resident safety with cutting-edge technology solutions.”

The acquisition was finalized March 1, Brigant said.

“Residents’ pharmacological needs are becoming increasingly more complex, especially given the growing acuity level among assisted living demographics,” he said. “Senior living providers, who once viewed their business as primarily a hospitality business, are finding that they need to layer on more, increasingly complex medication management services. With residents in senior living now frequently on eight or more medications, managing that risk is crucial.”
