A Florida assisted living facility is closing its doors, thanks largely to a report that all but blamed the community for a resident’s death.
In March, Pensacola-based Alpine Adult Care Assisted Living was cited in a scathing review by the state’s health department. Among the citations: negligent medication management and inadequate record keeping. One resident died after medication was not administered, the report alleged.
State officials previously had put an emergency moratorium on admissions in place, pending further review. The community’s license was revoked in May, with orders to take 30 days to relocate residents.
Although the community was originally fined $50,000, the amount was lowered to $3,000 once the community agreed not to pursue a license renewal.
