Winter, frozen, water

Seventy-two residents had to be evacuated from Assisted Living at the Willows after a water pipe erupted near the dining hall. No injuries were reported at the Pennsylvania-based community.

But all things considered, the sector paid a relatively small price for some of the coldest weather to hit much of the nation in decades. Others were not as fortunate: At least 21 deaths have been attributed to last week’s polar vortex.

More than 160 cold temperature records were set in the Midwest and Northeast during the final two days of January, according to the Weather Channel.
