Real estate investment trust Welltower has been named to the inaugural list of Best Companies to Work For from US News & World Report.

The list was released Tuesday and includes 200 publicly traded companies across various sectors and industries. It is an expansion of US News’ Careers listing.

To make the list, companies had to score the highest on six metrics that contribute to a positive work environment and day-to-day employee experience — quality of pay and benefits, work/life balance and flexibility, job and company stability, physical and psychological comfort, belongingness and esteem, and career opportunities and professional development.

Toledo, OH-based Welltower, with 514 employees, was one of several real estate-related companies that made the list. The REIT was recognized for its flexible work arrangements, work opportunities outside the US and wellness reimbursements, among other perks.

US News used a panel of six experts to develop a methodology that analyzes the publicly available employee sentiment and other data demonstrating how a company supports the everyday worker experience. Only companies that are part of the Russell 1000 index and had more than 75 employee reviews written in 2022 were considered.

“Beyond a paycheck, employers have a large stake in the quality of life for their employees and the workers are aware of this,” US News Senior Editor for Consumer Advice Antonio Barera said in a statement. “Regardless of the industry they’re in, employees today want to work somewhere they feel valued, can have a good work-life balance and are satisfied with their compensation and benefits.”

In addition to real estate, the list highlighted companies in the fields of healthcare, financials, information technology, consumer staples, materials, industrials, utilities, consumer discretionary, communication services and energy.

The Best Companies to Work For list is the latest program expansion for US News & World Report, which announced its Best Senior Living ratings program in 2021. In 2022, its inaugural year of listings, that program recognized 1,274 senior living communities. This year, 1,675 communities earned top ratings.
