1 community, 3 centenarians
Three centenarian residents of United Hebrew of New Rochelle's Willow Towers Assisted Living in New Rochelle, NY, recently marked their birthdays at a combined party. New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson presented each of them with a special proclamation.
Shirley Meyers, who turned 102 on Oct. 15; Anne Adler, who became 103 on March 28; and Mary Tallarini, who marked 102 years on Feb. 14, have a few key things in common, according to the community: They remain close to their families; they cultivate passions, hobbies and interests; they have a strong social network; and they maintain their independence as much as possible.
Adler (who declined to be photographed), for instance, fulfilled her dream of graduating from college when she was 70 years old, and Tallarini lived on her own until she passed her 99th birthday. Meyers still walks every day and participates in a full complement of social activities.
