Residents at La Costa Glen retirement community in Carlsbad, CA, have been repurposing hotel toiletries to help a women’s resource center.

Believing that most hotel toiletries go to waste, resident Ginni Davis suggested to fellow residents that they collect unused hotel toiletries from others in the community and donate them to the Women’s Resource Center in Oceanside, CA.

“As a society, we are all more conscious of the need to repurpose and recycle,” Davis said.  “Equally important is supporting the people in our community who need our help. We are proud to work with the WRC and assist them with the vital services they provide.”

Since launching the toiletries program in August 2017, residents Davis and Grace Omens have delivered more than 520 pounds of toiletries to the WRC, which provides shelter and other services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

“Many of the women and children who come to the Women’s Resource Center arrive with just the clothes on their back,” said Lauren Stephenson, development director for the WRC. “The toiletries donated by the La Costa Glen residents allow us to use our funds for other purchases. We really appreciate their support and all their hard work to collect and deliver these critical supplies to us.”
