COO, CFO out at American Senior Communities
American Senior Communities has terminated the employment of Chief Operating Officer Dan Benson, and Chief Financial Officer Roger Werner has resigned, effective immediately, the company announced Friday. The two departures follow the Sept. 18 firing of CEO James G. Burkhart after the federal government raided the company's Indianapolis headquarters and Burkhart's Carmel, IN, home on Sept. 15.
"ASC will not allow the actions of a few individuals to compromise its mission of providing quality care," the company said in a statement issued to McKnight's Senior Living. The federal investigation is not linked to care provided at any of the company's facilities, the company added.
Benson's employment termination is "a result of the federal investigation and ASC's related internal investigation," the company said, adding: "ASC does not anticipate any other leadership departures."
American Senior Communities said it is searching for an interim and permanent CEO, a COO and a CFO "who will promote and maintain the ASC culture of caring for others while demonstrating the highest level of integrity." The company offers independent living and assisted living apartments, assisted living memory care, skilled nursing, hospice and other services for older adults via 94 entities in Indiana and Kentucky, according to its website.
