A former assisted living worker in South Carolina has received a $1 million award after being falsely accused of trying to sexually assault a resident, according to local news sources.

Ralph C. Williams Sr. had been charged with attempting to assault and abuse a vulnerable resident at a Unihealth Post Acute Care, LLC assisted living facility in Orangeburg, SC, according to local NBC affiliate WIS. Acquitted in 2012, Williams brought a civil defamation suit against Unihealth and two of its employees.

An Orangeburg jury handed down the award to Williams on Sept. 9, WIS reported. The news report did not indicate how much the company and two individuals are expected to pay, respectively. A spokesman for the facility contacted by McKnight’s had no comment.
