The death rate from unintentional falls for adults aged 65 or more years has been increasing an average of 4.9% per year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The federal agency published data from the National Vital Statistics System on Thursday online as part of the “Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report” dated Sept. 8. The data cover the years 2000 to 2015.

The death rate for women increased from 24.6 to 52.4 per 100,000 people during that time, the CDC said. The death rate for men increased from 38.2 to 72.2 per 100,000.

Throughout the period, men had higher death rates from unintentional falls than did women, according to the CDC.
