Hearing loss a possible sign of Alzheimer’s

Senior living residents who experience age-related hearing loss may be at a higher risk for dementia and cognitive decline, Irish researchers have found.

Their review of almost 40 observational studies determined a strong connection. Those with such hearing loss were about twice as likely to have cognitive impairment and/or dementia.

The study suggested that hearing aids may offer some protection. Investigators also recommended that older adults receive routine hearing checks. Additional information is available here.
