The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed a rule that would expand the opportunity to offer employment-based health insurance to small businesses through small business health plans, also known as association health plans. The proposed rule would allow employers to join together as a single group to purchase insurance in the large group market, according to the proposal.


The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review a case that has significant implications for consumers and drug makers. The case involves hundreds of lawsuits that were led by women who claim they suffered bone fractures after taking Fosamax, which is used to combat osteoporosis. In May, the U.S. Solicitor General urged the Supreme Court to review the issue.


The Trump administration has named Uttam Dhillon as the new head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Dhillon previously served as deputy White House counsel. He will focus largely on the nation’s ongoing opioid epidemic. More than 42,000 people died from opioid overdoses in 2016, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
