The position of licensed practical nurse tops Simply Hired’s 2016 list of “Best Jobs You Can Get in 2016 Without A College Degree.” This is the first time that the job search engine company has ranked jobs that do not require a baccalaureate degree.

“While U.S. job listings have only grown slightly over the past two months, our data show significant opportunities continue to exist for Americans who do not hold a college degree,” says James Beriker, president and CEO of Simply Hired. The position that LPN has on the list reflects “the dominant role of healthcare in job creation at all levels,” he adds.

Currently, 55,992 LPN positions are available in the United States, according to the company, and the average salary is $38,776. The position requires completion of a one-year certification program, Simply Hired notes, and incremental education programs can help LPNs transition to RN positions if they desire.

The position of LPN received a job score of five on Simply Hired’s five-point scale. The job score considers factors such as average salary, the number of jobs available, geographic distribution and past and projected growth as well as potential career paths.

The ranking also includes additional requirements, such as certifications or licenses, needed beyond a high school diploma.

LPN was the only healthcare-related job to crack the top five. Other positions on the list: electrician, construction and building inspector, plumber and truck driver.
