A “Legends Landing” assisted living community for retired professional football players in Canton, OH, is one step closer to reality with the Sept. 10 beginning of demolition of the former Fawcett Stadium in preparation for the new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. The stadium is the site of the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game.

The community is part of the $476 million Pro Football Hall of Fame Village project, which additionally will include a museum, the stadium, a hotel and conference center, the Hall of Fame NFL Experience, youth fields, a Center for Excellence and a “Main Street Hall of Fame” area with retail shops, restaurants and office space, the Canton Repository reports.

The first phase of the stadium project is expected to be complete by the middle of next year, with the second phase complete by the summer of 2017, according to the newspaper. Most of the larger development should be completed within four years.
