Office manager accused of stealing rent money
The former office manager of an Oregon senior living community was scheduled to appear in court today on 29 counts of criminal mistreatment and theft, including four felony counts, according to the Statesmen Journal.
Victoria Ruiz, who worked at Prestige Senior Living - Orchard Heights in Salem, Oregon, was indicted Aug. 13. While she was responsible for tenant finances, she "wrote her own name onto three different rent checks from March, April, and May instead of the name of the facility, then cashed the checks, totaling $3,231," according to the newspaper, which cited a probable cause affidavit. Ruiz also is accused of misusing a resident's debit card meant to cover rent expense, depleted it by several thousand dollars.
According to the indictment, as many as seven residents were affected by her actions.
The Orchard Heights community offers assisted living and memory care.
