When an employer is named a “best place to work” or “employer of choice,” it means something in the eyes of potential employees, according to new Gallup research.

Eighty percent of U.S. adults who are open to the possibility of a new position or are looking for a new job say that they are more likely to apply for positions in organizations that have such designations, the Gallup Panel web study found.

“Winning such an award enhances a company’s employee value proposition (EVP). It sends a message to potential employees about what it is like to work at the organization,” explain Brandon Rigoni, PhD, associate director for talent-based hiring and development at Gallup, and Jessica White, a practice knowledge manager there. “By actively promoting the workplace award, companies offer job candidates the promise of a differentiated employment experience.”

Companies should pursue an award that “best meets their business goals and reflects the values of their organizational culture,” they say. And be sure to promote the recognition once you receive it, via the company website (especially where job openings are posted) and social media, as well as in the general media and in advertisements.
