ThedaCare names Imran Andrabi, M.D., new president and CEO
Imran Andrabi, M.D., has been named the new president and CEO of Appleton, WI-based ThedaCare, a community health system of which The Heritage (independent and assisted living) and Peabody Manor (skilled nursing) are part.
Andrabi, a family physician by training, will join ThedaCare on June 19 following the retirement of Dean Gruner, M.D., who has led the system for nine years.
He comes to ThedaCare from Mercy Health, a non-profit Catholic healthcare ministry serving Ohio and Kentucky. He began his time with Mercy Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare Partners) as an intern and medical resident 25 years ago and advanced through various positions to become regional president and CEO of the Toledo region in 2015.
Andrabi also has been a faculty member at the Medical College of Ohio and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
James Robinson named vice president of operations at Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services
James Robinson has joined Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services as vice president of operations.
He brings 28 years of senior living leadership experience to the position. From 2013 to 2017, he served as executive director of Deerfield, a 10-year-old Lifespace continuing care retirement community in Urbandale, IA.
Before Deerfield, Robinson was vice president of operations at WesleyLife, the 50th largest multi-facility senior living organization in the United States. He also has served as a regional director for Christian Homes, which operates 13 communities in four states in the Midwest.
Robinson has an undergraduate degree in business administration and management from Lincoln Christian University in Illinois.
NCPHS owns and operates three continuing care retirement communities, three affordable housing communities, a manufactured housing development for people aged 55 or more years, and community service programs that serve seniors throughout Northern California.
Mark Fontana named executive director of The Sheridan at Laumeier Park
Mark Fontana has been named executive director of The Sheridan at Laumeier Park, a newly opened, 84-unit assisted living/memory care community in Sunset Hills, MO.
Fontana has more than 25 years of experience in medical service and geriatric care administration. Before joining The Sheridan, the U.S. Army veteran was administrator of the Missouri Veterans Commission – St. Louis.
Fontana has a nursing degree and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health administration from Webster University in Webster Groves, MO.
The Sheridan at Laumeier Park is one of three senior living communities being built in metropolitan St. Louis by Senior Lifestyle Corp., a closely-held national owner, operator and developer of senior housing based in Chicago.
Michael Friedel promoted to associate executive director at Eagle’s Trace
Michael Friedel has been promoted to associate executive director at Eagle’s Trace, an Erickson Living retirement community in Houston.
Friedel joined Eagle’s Trace in October 2014 as director of continuing care. He began his career with Erickson Living in 2011 at Oak Crest, a sister community in Baltimore, where he first served as assisted living manager. Later, he was promoted to director of continuing care there.
In 2015, Friedel received the enterprise-wide 2015 Erickson Living Leadership Award, recognition given to a manager or director with Erickson Living deemed to have continually demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and to have inspired, motivated and empowered his or her team members to commit to excellence in serving residents.
Friedel is licensed as a nursing home administrator in Texas, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
Beth Murphy named resident care director of two communities
Beth Murphy has been named the resident care director of Renaissance Assisted Living and The Harbor at Renaissance, senior living communities serving the Charlottesville, VA, area.
In this position, she will oversee the care of residents, assess residents’ level of care needs and manage the caregiving staffs.
Before assuming her position at Renaissance and The Harbor, Murphy had served as a LPN charge nurse at sister community Grace Health and Rehab Center of Greene County since March 2015.
Murphy received her licensed practical nurse degree from Triplette Technical School in Mount Jackson, VA, and later continued her education at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, VA.
Jill Studley, M.D., joins medical team at Highland Springs
Jill Studley, M.D., has joined the medical center team as a staff physician at Highland Springs, an Erickson Living retirement community in Dallas.
Studley graduated with a medical degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. She completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in geriatrics at Tufts University, Baystate Campus, in Springfield, MA.
She is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is member of the American Geriatrics Society and the American Academy of Home Care Medicine. Studley also serves as a board member for Baylor Scott and White Quality Alliance.
Both Studley and Mary Norman, M.D., medical director of Highland Springs, have been named multiple times to the Top Docs list published by D Magazine.
Studley has spent the past 15 years in practice with the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center-Plano, where she specialized in geriatric and internal medicine. She also serves as the medical director for Baylor Elder Housecalls, a primary care geriatrics practice affiliated with the Dallas Diagnostic Association in Plano.
Renita Carnes named team member training coordinator for Legacy Senior Living
Renita Carnes has been named the team member training coordinator for Cleveland, TN-based Legacy Senior Living.
In this new role, Carnes will visit each Legacy community and will certify caregivers in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care training, designed to help them better serve and accommodate residents with memory loss diseases.
“I plan to focus on several training modules: diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, nutrition, activities, paranoia and communication. This training will certify each team member in Alzheimer’s and dementia care,” Carnes said.
Legacy Senior Living manages 12 senior living communities throughout the Southeast specializing in independent living, assisted living or Alzheimer’s care services. Carnes is scheduled to visit each facility to train and certify the team members. Each caregiver who has received the training will be certified.
Carnes has been employed with Legacy Senior Living for 11 years. She was named executive director of Renaissance Marquis community in Rome, GA, in 2012, where she worked for three years. In 2015, Carnes was promoted to Legacy Senior Living’s area director of operations, a position in which she will continue to serve alongside her corporate training position.
Trilogy Health Services honors three with Difference Maker Awards
Randy McCullough, Cindy Allen and Lana Osborne received Difference Maker Awards from Louisville, KY-based Trilogy Health Services at the company’s spring meeting awards banquet in Cincinnati.
McCullough works at The Meadows of Kalida in Kalida, OO; Alley works at St. Mary Healthcare Center in Lafayette, IN, and Osborne works at West River Health Campus in Evansville, IN. They are certified resident care associates or certified resident medical assistants.

Glacier Hills recognizes Volunteer of Year, other volunteers
Tom Gaffield was named Volunteer of the Year at Glacier Hills Senior Living Community at a March 30 recognition dinner.
The award is the community’s honor and is bestowed on an individual is deemed to stand out among all volunteers as an example of what is means to serve the community.
Gaffield is known by many at Glacier Hills for his series “Piano with Tom,” which occurs on the second Friday of every month. There, he performs the residents’ favorite songs.
Others longstanding volunteers also were honored at the event. Bryce Messmann received the Youth Service Award, the University of Michigan’s Project Outreach Program received the June Bennett Teamwork Service Award, Gloria Welsh received the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, Cyndy Pollard received the Ruth Monahan Spiritual Service Award, and Ayush Arora won the Tom and Jeanette Gaffield Gift of Music Award.
National Senior Campuses announces board changes
National Senior Campuses recently announed changed to its Board of Directors. All new terms began April 1 and will end March 31, 2018.
Officers:
- New Chairman Jim Anders is administrator and chief operating officer for Kennedy Krieger Institute and all subsidiary corporations.
- Secretary Michelle Bohreer practices law with the firm of Bohreer & Zucker LLP. For the past 20 years, she has represented clients in commercial litigation and employment defense cases. She also serves as chairwoman of NSC’s Governance and Internal Affairs Committee and is a member of the Operations and Risk Management Advisory Committee.
- Treasurer Eileen Erstad is a self-employed senior executive with extensive experience as a chief financial officer in the healthcare, hospitality and financial services industries. Erstad is chairwoman of NSC’s Operations and Risk Management Advisory Committee and is a member of both the Audit and Budget and Finance Advisory committees.
- Assistant Secretary Mary Helen Lorenz is a city planner who has worked in community development and management and has led school, town and church boards, including the Lincoln Housing Commission and First Parish, in her town of Lincoln, MA. Lorenz leads NSC’s Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Committee.

- Barbara Bisgaier recently retired from her position of managing director of Public Financial Management with more than 37 years of experience with government and public finance. Bisgaier also serves as the NSC’s Audit and Regional Audit Advisory Committee’s chairwoman.
- Stan Elwell is the former president, CEO and trustee of Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, having served this major community teaching hospital for 25 years.
- Fred Haas is a retired tax partner of the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked. from 1978 until 2001. He is a member of NSC’s Audit Advisory Committee.
- Jim Hayes is a registered certified public accountant. He most recently was employed as senior associate director of admissions and financial aid at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Hayes also a member of NSC’s Audit Advisory committee.
- Zina Jacque is the senior pastor at the Community Church of Barrington, IL, and is a member of NSC’s Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Committee.
- Carolyn Markey is the retired president and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association of America, a position in which she served from 1997 to 2007. She is a member of both NSC’s Governance and Internal Affairs and Vision committees.
- Willow Pasley is a retired finance and management professional with 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He is the chairman of NSC’s Investment and Treasury Advisory Committee.
- Stephanie Reel is the chief information officer for all divisions of the Johns Hopkins University and Health System and is a member of NSC’s Operations and Risk Management Advisory Committee.
- Arnie Speert, Ph.D., served as the sixth president of William Paterson University from 1985 until his retirement in 2010. He also a member of both the Investment and Treasury and Vision advisory committees of NSC.
- Grover Wrenn is a retired entrepreneur and senior executive with 40 years of experience in healthcare services, environmental science, regulatory policy and occupational health and safety. Wrenn chairs NSC’s Budget and Finance Committee.
Kimberly Hulett promoted to president of Creating Results
Kimberly Hulett has been promoted to president of Creating Results, a full-service marketing consultancy with offices in the Mid-Atlantic and New England.
In addition to this new role, Hulett will be assuming an ownership role within the organization as part of a succession plan put in motion when she joined the company in late in 2015 as executive vice president. She will succeed co-founder Todd Harff in this regard. He will be transitioning with co-founder Judy Harff into advisory roles.
“Kimberly has a strong record of positioning not-for-profit, faith-based, affinity and for-profit communities for strategic growth and increasing occupancy,” Todd Harff said. “She met all of our criteria and more to lead Creating Results on a day-to-day basis and provide thought leadership that propels clients forward.”
