A Jan. 15 preliminary hearing date has been set for an Ohio woman accused of giving narcotics and other prescription medication to residents while impersonating a licensed practicing nurse at an assisted living community.

Alliance, OH, police arrested Kristin Sweet at her home Jan. 7 and subsequently charged her with identity fraud, practicing nursing without a license and deception to obtain dangerous drugs for her alleged actions at Brookdale Alliance. Police say Sweet, 30, applied for a position at the community using an LPN identification number assigned to someone else in the state. She is not certified to practice as in LPN in Ohio.

Sweet did not enter a plea when she was arraigned in Alliance Municipal Court Jan. 8. Unemployed, she was appointed a public defender.

“As soon as we discovered this unauthorized person had been in our community, we contacted the authorities and did not allow her to return,” a Brookdale Senior Living spokeswoman told McKnight’s Senior Living. “She was not an associate and had no right to be in the community with our residents. We are grateful no residents were harmed during the minimal amount of time this situation occurred.”

The spokeswoman said that the community’s leaders appreciate the authorities’ response to the situation. “We would not knowingly allow someone with a history of this type of behavior care for our residents, and we hope justice is served for the deception and hurt this person has caused our community,” she said.
