Gail Victor

The owner of a Florida assisted living facility was arrested for aggravated manslaughter, a first-degree felony, on Thursday.

Gail Victor, 64, a licensed practical nurse who owned Bernadette’s ALF in Hallandale Beach, FL, did not adequately treat an 80-year-old resident’s multiple pressure ulcers, according to an investigation by the state’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, the investigators allege, Victor falsified nursing notes, did not properly document the size and stage of the ulcers, and concealed the extent and severity of the ulcers from others involved in the woman’s care.

“Over the course of several months, the victim’s condition worsened, resulting in the victim being transported by emergency medical personnel to Aventura Hospital,” according to a press release on the website of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. “Eight days following transportation to Aventura Hospital, the victim died as a result of cardio respiratory arrest, sepsis and osteomyelitis.”

Victor has relinquished her license to the Florida Department of Health, Bondi said. If convicted of the charge she faces, she faces up to 30 years in prison.
