Senior Star has become the first senior living community in the country to purchase and install BikeAround, a stationary, individually adjustable assistive bike that is paired with Google Street View to provide cognitive and physical benefits to residents.

The Swedish technology may particularly help those with memory loss relive meaningful moments, Senior Star believes. Residents could choose to bike down the streets where they grew up, bike down the streets of a foreign country they visited years ago or visit someplace new to them.

“Being on the forefront of providing programs that invest in our residents’ total well-being is an inherent part of our core values as an organization,” Senior Star CEO Anja Rogers said.  “We are excited to bring this unique technology into our range of comprehensive aging well programs for all the residents who call Senior Star home, and we look forward to sharing in their personal stories and journeys from using BikeAround.”

Senior Star has implemented the technology at a total of 12 of its senior living communities located in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio and Oklahoma.
