“Ready, Steady, Balance: Prevent Falls in 2016” is the theme of this year’s Falls Prevention Awareness Day, Sept. 22 (the first day of fall).

The event, designed to raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults, was first observed in 2008 and had grown from 11 states to 48 states and the District of Columbia as of 2015, according to the National Council on Aging.

The council has posted resources on its website and will walk through a house and demonstrate safety strategies and tips live on Facebook at 1 p.m. ET Sept. 22.
