Memory care and assisted living residents at Lexington Square Senior Living in Lombard, IL, recently were treated to a trip down McDonald’s memory lane with Happy Meals.

JJC Restaurant Group’s Lombard McDonald’s provided the meals after Julie Bista, the community’s director of memory care, contacted the restaurant with a touching story about a resident who wasn’t eating.

“She wasn’t very hungry. We knew that she loved McDonald’s, so I asked one of our staff members to run and get her a cheeseburger to entice her to eat,” Bista said. “She was so excited and said it brought back memories. All of our residents have fond memories of McDonald’s, so we decided to have a red-and-yellow party.”

After sharing the story with McDonald’s, the Lombad location donated the 100 cheeseburgers, fries and vintage toys in red Happy Meal boxes. Residents visited the community’s activities room, which was decorated for the occasion to pick up their Happy Meals and have their pictures taken.

“We found out that one of our residents had worked for McDonald’s for 15 years,” Bista said. “She was so happy. This brought back wonderful memories for her.”
