Sunrise Senior Living will open its 42nd community in California, Sunrise at Palos Verdes, in early March in Los Angeles. The community will offer assisted living and memory care programming and services.

Marguerite Crockem, who had been with Sunrise for more than 10 years, has been appointed executive director of the community. She previously was executive director at Sunrise of Fullerton.

The new four-story, 67,000 square-foot community has approximately 80 units and will provide care and services for up to 95 residents. Design elements inside the building are meant to support older adults’ mobility needs and promote continued independence. For example, “way finding” wallpaper on memory care floors is designed to help residents better distinguish different corridors and find their suites. Colors were carefully selected based on what’s known about the aging eye and low vision issues that often affect older adults.

Additional features include Wi-Fi throughout the community for residents and families to stay connected; an electronic health records system; a dining program; community pets; and more. Outdoor areas include circular walkways and patios.

The company plans to continue expanding its presence in California with the opening of Sunrise of Pleasanton next year in the San Francisco’s Bay Area.
