Parkinson on pandemic: IT investment key

COVID-19 is the biggest crisis to hit the long-term care industry in its history, but the question now is how to ensure that providers are prepared should something like it happen again, Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association / National Center for Assisted Living said while opening LeadingAge’s 15th Annual Collaborative Care HIT Summit. The meeting went virtual this year due to the pandemic.

Workers, residents should be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccine, senior living industry representatives say

The first available vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 should go to frontline healthcare workers — including those who work in assisted living communities — and first responders, according to draft recommendations from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. But application of the recommendations to older adults in long-term care settings — specifically, senior housing — is unclear, according to industry representatives.
