Bipartisan legislation would add LGBT protections to civil rights laws

Bipartisan legislation reintroduced Wednesday in the Senate and the House of Representatives, if passed, would amend existing federal civil rights laws to explicitly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, education, credit, federal jury service, public accommodations and the use of federal funds.

Discrimination lawsuit brought against CCRC by lesbian couple is dismissed

A federal judge Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit against a Missouri continuing care retirement community that had been accused of discriminating against a lesbian couple by not allowing them to live there, writing that the district court in which she presides “has squarely held that ‘Title VII [of the Civil Rights Act] does not prohibit discrimination against homosexuals.’ ”
