In the wake of findings detailed in a new report from the Government Accountability Office made public on Wednesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will take steps to ensure that states have sufficient incentives to use the billions of dollars they receive for the provision of Medicaid managed long-term services and supports.

Data issues complicate Medicaid oversight, GAO says

The incomplete, inaccurate and late reporting of Medicaid expenditure and utilization data makes it difficult for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to ensure that payments are proper and that beneficiaries have access to covered services, the Government Accountability Office said in a report made public Monday.

The expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has negatively affected vulnerable beneficiaries such as the elderly, according to a witness testifying Tuesday at a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing. He suggested a freeze on expansion, but not all witnesses agreed with him.
