A new Harris Poll asked 2,232 U.S. adults, “If you could live in any state in the country, except the state you live in now, what state would you choose to live in?”

Baby boomers, those aged 51 to 69 years, answered:

  1. Florida
  2. Hawaii
  3. Arizona and California (tied)
  4. Oregon

Those aged 70 or more years responded:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Florida
  3. North Carolina
  4. California
  5. Arizona

When asked, “If you could live in or near any city in the country except the one you live in or nearest to now, which city would you choose?” baby boomers said:

  1. San Diego
  2. New York City
  3. Austin, TX, and Denver (tie)
  4. Honolulu

Those aged 70 or more years answered:

  1. San Diego
  2. Honolulu
  3. Phoenix
  4. New York City
  5. Atlanta and Miami (tie)

The poll was conducted online Nov. 11 to 16. Results were released in December.
