Penny L. Smith began as executive director of Water’s Edge of Bradenton, a National Church Residences retirement community, Aug. 24.

Smith comes to Bradenton after spending nearly eight years as the executive director of Kensington Place, a 126-unit independent/assisted living retirement community in Columbus, Ohio. Before that, she was the director of marketing in National Church Residences’ home care/hospice division.

Water’s Edge of Bradenton, located on 37 acres, joined the National Church Residences family in April 2014. It is in the midst of a $15.9 million, 80-unit, 77,589-square-foot expansion set for completion in spring 2016. The new three-story building will feature dedicated memory care floor. The retirement community already includes a heated pool, fitness center, movie theatre, auditorium, game and card rooms, wellness center and beauty shop.
