When it comes to senior living, women do most of the heavy lifting — literally and figuratively.

Yet in many ways, they are the forgotten heroes of this field. That needs to change.

As a small step in the right direction, we at McKnight’s are proud to introduce a program that will give some long-overdue recognition to the many women in senior living who are truly making a difference.

The McKnight’s Women of Distinction awards program is now underway. We hope you will take the time to nominate a deserving subordinate, colleague, mentor or other deserving person without delay.

Multiple honorees will be recognized in each of the two categories: Hall of Honor and Rising Stars.

The Hall of Honor awards are intended for women who are at an executive level, either in administration or direct care, at any senior living community or skilled nursing facility. Other eligible nominees are professionals in academia, policy specialists and various thought leaders and activists.

The Rising Stars category will honor nominees under the age of 40, as well as top performers with less than 15 years of experience in this field.

If you have any doubts as to whether a person you might consider is worthy, here’s my advice: Go for it! As hockey great Wayne Gretzky famously said, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

In case you are wondering, you may nominate as many people as you’d like, but a separate entry is required for each candidate. You also may enter yourself for consideration. Why not?

Also, time is of the essence. Nominations can be made at no charge until Jan. 18. After that, a $25 late fee will apply. To enter a deserving person in either category, please click here.

The nomination form will ask for some demographic information and a password. We are doing this to make sure we receive legitimate entries. Please know that all received information will be kept strictly confidential.

Also, be sure to actually finish your entry. To do that, you will have to hit the “Save” and then the “Add to Cart” button at the bottom of the form.

I urge you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. And stay tuned: We will be making some additional exciting announcements related to this program in the near future.
