Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to see some memorable events take place in this field.

But none has made me prouder than being a part of the inaugural McKnight’s Women of Distinction awards program. I doubt that anyone who was in Chicago last May for the inaugural ceremony will ever forget it.

The energy and joy levels in the room that night were simply unbelievable. To see such well-deserving people get some long overdue recognition was truly inspiring.

In all, the program honored more than 40 women. And as wonderful as that was, it was barely scratching the proverbial surface. Fortunately, we’re about to launch a bigger and (hopefully) better event for 2020. That’s right — nominations for the second annual McKnight’s Women of Distinction awards program are now being accepted.

Once again, nominations can be made in two categories:

  • Hall of Honor candidates should be at the level of vice president (or equivalent) or higher and must have made a significant impact in their organizations or in the senior living or skilled nursing fields.
  • Rising Stars should have less than 15 years of experience in senior living or skilled nursing or be no more than 40 years old, and they must have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the senior housing and care industry.

A lifetime achievement award also will be bestowed.

Nominators should be prepared to share nominees’ work history, exceptional achievements and contributions or service, and anything else that the judging panel should consider.

All honorees will be celebrated at an awards event in May in Chicago. Additional details about the event will be announced at a later date.

PointClickCare is the Diamond sponsor of this year’s event, and PharMerica is the Silver sponsor.

As always, time is a real bandit here. The entry deadline is Jan. 8. So if you or someone you know would make a fine candidate, please get the entry taken care of as soon as possible.

Believe me, the payoff could be quite memorable.
