Lifespace Communities hires Dana Smith as chief revenue officer

Dana Smith has joined Lifespace Communities, of Dallas and West Des Moines, IA, as the new chief revenue officer.

In her new position, Smith will support the company’s revenue growth spanning all business lines. She also will serve as Lifespace Communities’ corporate and community brand steward in a chief marketing officer role.

Before joining the company, Smith led the operations of a portfolio of senior living communities in Texas. She has an undergraduate degree in business administration, specifically marketing, from Southern Methodist University.

Erickson Senior Living announces new chief financial officer, Christian Sweetser

Christian Sweetser has joined Erickson Senior Living, Baltimore, as the new chief financial officer. He succeeds Todd Matthiesen, who has been promoted to executive vice president of business strategy and administration.

In his new capacity, Sweetser will oversee the planning, implementation and direction of the company’s fiscal function and performance. This will involve being present in the development of its strategic plans and programs, evaluating and advising on long-range plans and offering analysis of finances and trends.

Before joining the company, Sweetser was CFO of Silverado. 

Solera Senior Living promotes Ann Wynn to SVP

Morning Pointe Senior Living hires Amanda Baushke as VP of life enrichment

Amanda Baushke has been appointed vice president of life enrichment at Morning Pointe Senior Living, Chattaonoga, TN.

In this position, she will lead strategic development of life enrichment and memory care programming at all company locations. She will focus on residents’ overall physical, spiritual, emotional, cognitive and social well-being.

Baushke brings more than 13 years of experience in the senior living field to the role. Before joining the company, she most recently was vice president of operations at a senior living-related company in the Denver area.

Transforming Age welcomes Ken Noreen as VP of CCRCs

Ken Noreen has joined Transforming Age, Bellevue, WA, as vice president of continuing care retirement communities.

Noreen has more than 35 years of experience in the senior living leadership arena, focused on project development and operations of nonprofit CCRCs, also known as life plan communities. In his new role, he will be responsible for the Transforming Age’s CCRCs and will be interim executive director at the Skyline community, which recently expanded its downtown Seattle campus.

Before joining Transforming Age, Noreen most recently was senior vice president at Wohlsen Construction.

Westminster Communities of Florida names Scott Cairns regional VP of operations

Scott Cairns has joined Westminster Communities of Florida as regional vice president of operations. He will lead the organization’s Central and Northern Florida community’s operations in its life plan communities and support the company’s vision to enhance and expand its mission to serve older adults throughout the state. Westminster Communities of Florida currently serves more than 7,000 residents in 22 communities throughout Florida.

Cairns reports to senior vice president of operations Jim Polaski. He previously was the executive director of Indian River Estates, a life plan community in Vero Beach, FL. Cairns has 14 years of leadership experience in senior living and serves on the LeadingAge Florida Board of Directors, chairing the Public Policy Committee. He has an undergraduate degree in business administration from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Pegasus Senior Living welcomes 4 to team

Saloom, as corporate director of life enrichment, will oversee all of the life enrichment directors. She has more than 10 years of experience.

Hardesty, in her new role as regional vice president of operations, will oversee all of the operations teams in California. She is in the process of completing her Ph.D. in human services and leadership.

Rogers will be executive director of Sterling Court at Roseville, Roseville, CA. In his position, he will manage daily operations of the community and oversee employees. He has 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry as well as a background in service, sales and operations.

Coterie Cathedral Hill welcomes Michael Pounsberry as general manager

Michael Pounsberry has joined Coterie Cathedral Hill, San Francisco, as general manager. 

Before joining the company, Pounsberry was regional director for GNI Management, where he led hotel acquisitions in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay area.

He has many hospitality certifications in both the hotel and senior living sectors; he successfully completed his Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly certification.

Arrow Senior Living promotes 4 new managers, names 4 executive directors

St. Louis-based Arrow Senior Living has promoted Crystal Parrish, BSN, RN, Nicole Rozsa, Gregory Dierlam and John McAninch to its management team. Arrow also has appointed Michael Mayberry, Christine Serdinak, Gregory Schindler and Tammy Vaughn to executive director positions.

Parrish, as managing director of wellness, will provide clinical oversight and support across Arrow communities. With more than a decade experience in healthcare and senior living, her previous assignments include clinical nursing instructor and corporate director of clinical care. Parrish joined Arrow in January 2021.

Rozsa, as managing director of marketing, will supervise marketing strategy over Arrow’s Ohio portfolio. She previously was marketing director overseeing the company’s new development projects. Rozsa first joined Arrow in 2018 as a sales and marketing coordinator.

Dierlam has been promoted to managing director of marketing and will oversee strategy for the company’s growing Missouri portfolio. He first joined Arrow in 2016.

John McAninch, as managing director of culinary operations, will oversee dining experience across Arrow communities. Having first joined Arrow in 2016, McAninch previously was an executive director, marketing director and regional director of operations.

Mayberry, a licensed nursing home administrator, will lead operations as executive director of Arrow’s newly developed community The Princeton in Lee’s Summit, MO. Mayberry previously worked in public health and nonprofit community development before joining Arrow in November 2021.

Serdinak will oversee daily operations at Vitalia Active Adult Community, an independent living, assisted living and memory care community opening in March in North Royalton, OH. She brings more than 20 years of experience in skilled nursing and senior living to the Arrow team, is a licensed nursing home administrator and a licensed social worker and previously served in regional sales and operations roles.

Schindler has been named executive director at Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake, OH. A licensed nursing home administrator and a licensed healthcare administrator, Schindler holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health administration from Ohio University. Before joining Arrow, he held administrator roles with Brookdale Senior Living and Senior Living Communities.

Vaughn recently was promoted to executive director at Gentry Park Senior Living in Bloomington, IN. Before stepping into her new role, she previously supported the community’s daily operations as the business office director. Vaughn has served Gentry Park residents, families and team members for five years and is a licensed residential care administrator.

VMRC hires Terry Martin as HR and safety manager

LeadingAge Ohio welcomes Susan Wallace as next company president and CEO

Susan Wallace has been announced as the next president and CEO of LeadingAge Ohio, Columbus. She succeeds Kathryn Brod, who in August 2021 announced her plans to retire, having headed the organization since 2014.

Wallace, who will assume her new role March 15, began at LeadingAge Ohio after eight years at the Midwest Care Alliance before its merger with LeadingAge Ohio in 2014. Since 2019, Wallace has led advocacy efforts for LeadingAge Ohio, serving as a spokeswoman and subject matter expert on Medicaid reimbursement and other policy issues.

She began her career as a social worker with Mount Carmel Hospice.

Carlyle Group appoints 2 new independent directors

The Carlyle Group has appointed Linda Hefner Filler and Mark S. Ordan as independent directors to serve on its board of directors, effective April 1. Additionally, Janet Hill will retire after 10 years of service.

Fisher joins the company’s board after a long career in the retail and consumer goods sector. Most recently, she was president of retail products, chief marketing officer and chief merchandising officer at Walgreen. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master of Science degree from the University of North Texas.

Ordan joins the board with many years of experience in healthcare and real estate. He is CEO and a board member of Mednax, which he joined in 2020. Previous titles include CEO of Quality Care Properties and CEO of Sunrise Senior Living. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Walker & Dunlop expands seniors housing property sales team to California with hire of Gideon Orion

Gideon Orion has been hired as a managing director on the investment sales platform of Walker & Dunlop, Bethesda, MD.

Orion is based in Los Angeles and will join the firm’s national seniors housing property sales team led by Managing Director Joshua Jandris. Orion will be focused on originating and executing seniors housing property sales opportunities across the United States. 

He brings 14 years of experience in real estate to the position. Before joining Walker & Dunlop, Orion was managing director and managing broker of California for Blueprint Healthcare Real Estate Advisors, an advisory firm exclusively focused on seniors housing and healthcare real estate. Previously, he was director for Cushman & Wakefield.

Accounting firms BKD and DHG join forces for a growth strategy

Accounting firms BKD and DHG have agreed to merge to create a national professional services firm with $1.4 billion in revenue.

Tom Watson, current CEO of Springfield, MO-based BKD, will be the CEO of the new organization, and Matt Snow, current CEO of Charlotte, NC-based DHG, will be the chair.

Both men said the merger will create a firm that is primed for growth in the current business landscape.
