Tammy Jo Painter
Tammy Jo Painter

Tammy Jo Painter grew up around long-term care. Her mother, Joan K. Todd, worked for 30 years as a long-term care professional and owned several facilities.

Painter followed in her mother’s footsteps and now is the vice president of compliance and operations at American Medical Facilities Management in Charleston, WV. She has been there since 1999 and leads a team of 18 administrators.

The current chair of the state Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board, she also once was president of the West Virginia Health Care Association and the West Virginia Health Care Foundation. Although she no longer is the president of WVHCA, Painter holds the record for longest consecutive years of service as a board member and was the interim CEO in 2006. She also received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award.

Painter also is a member of the West Virginia Ombudsman Advisory Committee, which is a forum for providers, consumers, regulatory agencies and ombudsman staff to share concerns and needs.

Painter attended Bluefield State College, where she earned her undergraduate degree in business.

She and her husband have seven children, to whom they have passed a sense of service. All of them have served or are still serving in the military, including the Army, Marines, Navy, Army National Guard and Air National Guard.
