Photographs of residents of Vista West, a Capri independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Madison, WI, adorned the Christmas tree in the drawing room of Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) and first lady Karen Evers this year.

Each year, the governor and first lady decorate one room at the executive residence in honor of the six million Americans and more than 120,000 Wisconsinites living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as the caregivers who provide them care.

This year’s tree also was decorated with ornaments made by individuals living with dementia who visited the governor’s residence throughout 2022, and the artwork in the drawing room also was made by individuals living with dementia. In a video message, the governor and first lady thanked the staff of Vista West and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association for their partnership in decorating the drawing room and for their daily work serving individuals living with dementia and their families.
