Senior living referral service A Place for Mom expanded its services into the skilled nursing sector Wednesday with the launch of an online directory, NursingHomes.com.

The website, containing listings for the more than 15,000 skilled nursing facilities operating in the United States, is meant to connect facilities with prospective residents and patients and their families looking for nursing homes.

“In working with families, we found a significant gap in being able to identify and evaluate short-term and long-term skilled facilities under a tight timeline. Our new offering will much more effectively provide families with the information they need to make confident skilled care decisions with greater peace of mind,” Miho Jacobs, general manager of NursingHomes and chief corporate development officer at A Place for Mom, said in a statement

“At the same time, we have heard loud and clear that SNFs have struggled to effectively reach families, and our new directory will help families and facilities come together while also providing hospitals with a new robust resource for their patients,” she added.

Older adults and others can research facilities by name, location, size, services and Medicare Star rating. The site will differ from A Place for Mom’s offerings in senior living and home care, however, in that it “is designed to be a self-directed experience for families looking for skilled care, with everything they need at their fingertips to connect with facilities quickly,” rather than steer consumers to an “adviser” to help them find a good fit.

The comprehensive directory is free to use for families and providers. Providers must pay a fee to upgrade their profiles to the premium level, however. The cost for premium membership will be in the range of $500 per month per facility, a spokesperson for the company told the McKnight’s Business Daily Thursday, but for a limited time, providers can get a free trial of a premium profile subscription.

NursingHomes will allow basic provider members to receive leads via phone and email. Premium membership includes verified reviews, brochures, virtual tours, facility tours and website referrals, among other features.
