Weighted average occupancy at Brookdale Senior Living in the first quarter was “relatively flat” compared with such occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2021, avoiding the seasonal occupancy decline typically seen between those two periods, the Brentwood, TN-based company reported Friday.

The amount, according to Brookdale, represented its best first-quarter sequential occupancy change in 10 years.

Additionally, the company reported more than 2,000 move-ins during March, saying that the amount was higher than in any month since August 2019. Sequential weighted average occupancy increased by 30 basis points (0.3%), and month-end occupancy increased by 60 basis points (0.6%), with growth across each segment of services.

In January, the company had announced that it experienced in December the first positive year-over-year quarterly weighted average occupancy growth for the first time since the pandemic began.

The news continues a positive trend for the country’s largest senior living operator, which announced last month that February was the company’s fourth consecutive month of positive year-over-year weighted average occupancy growth since the pandemic began.
