Two continuing care retirement communities in western New York have partnered to provide a home healthcare option for the communities’ independent living residents.

Fox Run at Orchard Park and Canterbury Woods, the latter with two locations in the Buffalo area, are the only CCRCs in the western portion of the state. Together, the organizations have created FoxWoods Home Care as an added benefit.

The home care service is meant for residents who might need a little help with activities of daily living or an occasional ride or a home visit from a nurse. Companions and nurses will travel among the three campuses regularly, assisting only independent living residents.

“This is such a great opportunity for both the communities and the staff. Staff will only have to travel to one place and take care of multiple clients as opposed to traveling all over

to take care of a few clients,” Fox Run at Orchard Park CEO Bill Wlodarczyk said in a press release, calling the home care service “just another added advantage of retirement living.”

As senior housing and care providers grapple with staffing shortages, “this collaboration

is an ingenious solution for employees and families to have the best of both worlds,” according to Fox Run at Orchard Park. The CCRC said that the FoxWoods service will help family members as well as residents, because family members otherwise would need to do independent research to find home care services for their loved ones.

Canterbury Woods Williamsville includes 243 independent living apartments and patio homes. The Gates Circle location is in downtown Buffalo and has 50 independent living apartments. Fox Run at Orchard Park, a short drive from Buffalo, has 180 independent living apartments and patio homes.
