The Manitowoc, WI-based Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity (FSCC) on Monday assumed sponsorship of faith-based Clement Manor, a continuing care retirement community in Greenfield, WI.

The Milwaukee-based School Sisters of St. Francis formerly sponsored the CCRC. Under the agreement, Clement Manor’s operations, leadership and staff remain unchanged. The School Sisters of St. Francis who currently reside at Clement Manor will also remain in place.

FSCC sponsors acute and long-term healthcare facilities located in Wisconsin, Nebraska and Ohio. This transfer marks the expansion of the religious order into the Milwaukee market.

“Clement Manor strategically had assessed whether an individual facility would have the ability to move forward for the future. The decision was made to look for organizations that have the potential for collaboration with like-minded facilities in long-term care, thus resulting in a change in sponsorship,” the CCRC’s CEO Dennis Ferger told the McKnight’s Business Daily. “The goal of a Catholic-based mission was important and the two Franciscan-based organizations’ influence offers growth for the future with consistent values and vision.”

The change in sponsorship will not affect the day-to-day operations of the CCRC, he said, “but collaboration will lead to savings materializing from looking at similar vendors and putting into place best practices. In addition, collaboration will enhance opportunities for growth of staff, thus retaining talent.”

After monthslong discussions between the two distinct Francisan orders, and approvals from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Green Bay Diocese, the transition went into effect on April 1. Ferber said the sponsorship transfer required review from the Vatican because of the dollar amounts due to the buildings.

“At a time when there are so many challenges facing healthcare and long-term care providers, I am thrilled to be entering into this new relationship with Clement Manor. This is an opportunity for both of our organizations to enhance the necessary work we do,” President and CEO of FSCC Sponsored Ministries Scott McConnaha said in a press release.

“I am proud that our system and our sponsor, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, are able to help extend the exceptional care for which Clement Manor is known and to continue this vital ministry on behalf of the Church,” McConnaha added.
