Monarch Communities, together with real estate investment trust Welltower, opened a “wellness-focused senior living concept” this week in Weymouth, MA. The Current Weymouth is the first community of The Current brand, according to Monarch Communities.

Monarch Communities, with offices in New York and Massachusetts, and Toledo, OH-based Welltower first formed a partnership in 2021.

“We are excited to officially introduce The Current brand and to show the community what true wellness-focused senior living can look like,” Monarch Communities CEO Michael Glynn said in a press release.

“This community was inspired by WELL Building certification metrics that take a holistic approach to health, incorporating the benefits of nourishment, air, light, water and movement,” Glynn said. “In essence, we’ve crafted an environment where people can enhance their daily experiences, enjoy the quality of their lives and become more who they are in a stress-free atmosphere.”

The Current at Weymouth offers independent living, assisted living, memory care and respite care for short-term residents and family caregivers, with the goal of enabling residents to age in place. The community will feature 165 apartments with the capacity to accommodate 200 residents. Rent for independent living apartments rooms starts at $6,400 per month; assisted living and memory care monthly rent starts at $6,800.

The community will employ more than 100 people.

As a wellness-focused senior living community, The Current features fitness and wellness areas offering classes such as restorative yoga, Pilates and Zumba, as well as services such as personal massages. The community also features hydration and healthy snack stations. For food lovers, four chef-driven restaurants offer locally sourced meals, and adaptations are available for various dietary needs. The pet-friendly community has rooftop decks, greenspaces, courtyard and a patio for outdoor recreation.

The operator is offering a two-year rate lock to prospective residents who make deposits now through the end of the year.
